Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District

Fresno/Clovis, CA

Are you a hands-on problem solver who thrives in the great outdoors? If you're hard-working and you want to make a difference in the community, this role is perfect for you. As a Maintenance Technician, you will be on the front lines, directly impacting the community in the work that you do.

We take pride in providing flood protection. Our flood control and urban storm drainage systems play a crucial role in protecting the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and Inspection: Regularly inspect stormwater basins, reservoirs, channels, fences, pumps, and other facilities. Perform routine maintenance on, service, operate, and troubleshoot facilities (pumps, valves, etc.) to keep things running smoothly.
  • Irrigation: Repair and adjust sprinklers and control valves, repair breaks in lines, program irrigation schedules, and anything else necessary to keep landscaped basins looking healthy and green!
  • Measurements, Math Skills, and Data Collection: Accurate measurements matter! You'll read tape measures, gauges, meters, etc., and assess maintenance needs. Basic math skills to calculate volumes and quantities are a must! You'll collect and analyze data to make decisions in the field (e.g. flow rates).
  • Pest/Vegetation Control: Build strong relationships while overseeing maintenance contractors. Occasionally trim vegetation to prevent overgrowth to keep basins in tip top shape.
  • Independence: Problem solve on the fly and regularly work independently.
  • Safety First: Follow safety protocols to protect yourself and your team.
  • Teamwork: Every teammate matters. Collaborate to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate vehicles (including 4-wheel drive), basic tools, and equipment.
  • Adaptability: Rain or shine, you'll be out there-so embrace all seasons and be open to shifting priorities.
  • Availability: Be ready to work winter storm events, on-call, and special projects

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: At least one year of hands-on experience in landscaping, industrial maintenance, irrigation, or construction.
  • Physical Stamina: This role involves physical labor and working outdoors year-round.
  • Reliability: We count on you to show up consistently and independently manage your tasks.

  • Attention to Detail: Spotting issues early and addressing them promptly makes the work easier.
  • Driver's License: California driver's license required-you'll travel between basin sites daily.
  • Must live within 12 miles of First Street and McKinley Avenue intersection in Fresno.

Perks:

  • Stable full-time employment.
  • Competitive wages and growth opportunities.
  • Medical, dental, vision coverage.
  • Paid holidays and paid time off.
  • Boot Allowance
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the summer
  • Some overtime and occasional weekend work (because basins don't take weekends off and rain doesn't wait for weekdays!)

If you're ready to make a positive impact and get your hands dirty (literally), we'd love to hear from you!

First review of applications: September 27, 2024.

Note: Must pass a post-offer drug screen and background check prior to employment. Employees must present identification and the legal right to work in the U.S. Employees must take "disaster service workers" oath.
